This calf penny loafer is our rendition of a dressier slip-on. This Italian Baby Calf is a vegetable-tanned leather with a higher sheen. It is very transparent, which allows profound highs and lows. It also means that any natural traits, such as growth marks, are visible. These should not be considered defects but merely the article's natural base. The raw character and high-shine finish are the beauty of this particular vegetable tannage.
Our penny loafer was created with two things in mind: versatility and comfort. It's the ultimate shoe for travel, given the ability to be paired with a sport coat or t-shirt and almost anything in between. We find ourselves wearing this shoe year-round—sockless with shorts/lightweight fabrics in the summer and with wool socks and trousers throughout the winter.Â

Great Shoe, Finicky Sizing
"I know a critique of sizing is maybe a personal thing that depends on your own foot, but I had a difficult time making these work. I started down a half size (9 D) from my normal size (9. 5 D) and was swimming in them, where I think loafer’s are supposed to stretch a lot and hug your foot early. So I went to an 8. 5 D, but it was unbearably tight. I tried stretching them, but the problem was not really width or length, but overall volume. Something big seems to happen between 9 and 8. 5 D. It was way too big of a size jump. Since the size return policy is a one shot deal, I had to keep the 8. 5 Ds, but I can’t wear them. I still love GS, they look great, clearly well built. Love my Edward boots. But be wary of the loafer sizing. I almost never have problems with sizing and have easy feet, so this was a big surprise to me."
