The word “diesel” doesn’t exactly remind us of something flashy but instead of something built for strength and longevity. This is our rendition of the plain toe boot pattern—made with nothing but proven leather uppers, lining, and insole.
This article, tanned by Charles F. Stead, has an outstanding balance of strength and character. The tannage creates a tight fiber structure that is infused with wax. The Earth color is a very dark brown out of the box and begins to show lighter shades through everyday wear.

Fabulous Geant Stone Diesel Boots
"This is my second pair of Diesel's this year after purchasing a pair of Marine Firld Roughouts earlier in the year. Both are absolutely Fabulous. Previously worn Truman and PNW Lace Ups all considerably more bulky than the Diesel, and for my fairly long slim foot these work far better than the same size Truman which are tight on the big toe and then too roomy everywhere if I size up a half Size. These along with my various Engineers will last me pretty much for ever I think. 🙏🔥"

"This is my sixth pair of Grant Stone boots and definitely my favorite. The Waxed Commander leather is a bit of a departure from the Chromexcel in appearance but it has its own awesome character. The color is a really deep blackish brown. “Earth” is actually a great name for the color. Break-in was quicker than the CXL leathers and I’m actually looking forward to beating this up a bit and not babying them."

"Really impressed with the Diesel Boot in Earth Waxed Commander. Super well built and comfortable right away. Break in was quick. They honestly look better on foot than in pictures. The leather has a great feel and character, and it’s easy to maintain. Just a wax based balm and they look almost new again. Solid, good looking boot that’s easy to wear."

"The waxed commander is absolutely fantastic! Living/working in Boston, these have allowed me to be office ready while also managing the snow/cold this winter. They’ve been pretty water resistant, salt marks come right out with a quick brushing. Highly recommend if you need to brave bad weather and still look presentable! Have a high instep, and it’s taking a bit long to wear in - still pretty snug over the top of the toe box. Only reason I’m giving 4 stars!"

Q&A
- To follow up on the first question, are you saying we should not put Venetian on the vamps? If so, may I ask why. I ask because it seems that the vamp, particularly the toe area, is going to get the most abuse. Thanks.
- You're welcome to apply the Venetian to your vamps, of course. As you mentioned this is one of the most noticeable areas of the boot where the application of the leather balm is admired. This was maybe a warning or something to be aware of during application, that maybe you'd like to start somewhere other than the toe so if there is a portion of the leather that darkens a little more than another, it won't stare you right in the face on the toe of your footwear.
- To whom it may concern, I recently got a hold of the diesel boot earth and I'm loving it. Great boot. My concern is the maintenance of the boot. How do you recondition these type of leather materials and what products are best to use?
- Using a brush that has firm bristles will help keep dust particles off and even out scuffs. Since the leather surface has a matte finish, it holds this look even after a lot of heavy wear. Scuffs and dings tend to look more natural. The tannery recommends applying a WP beeswax/dubbin to restore if it begins to look dry over time. From our own experience, we’ve used Neutral Venetian and seen great results. We suggest starting with a little amount (not on the vamps) and working up from there.
