After wiping down the leather, brushing the upper with the horsehair will help bring the waxes and oils to the surface while evening them out, creating a sheen.
A cotton cloth or nylon fabric can then be used to further buff the leather's surface for a higher shine.

"As per the usual quality of GS products, the six inch horsehair brush is top notch. No shedding, not too stiff to damage anything, not so soft that it does no good. Just the right brush for a great shine. If I had to wish for anything for this brush is that is wish it were cobbler length."
