Variations of the Chelsea boot have been a staple worldwide for nearly two centuries. This slip-on pattern dates back to the early 1800s as a riding boot, which is how it originally earned the 'Paddock boot' name. Only in the mid-1900s, when the boot was popular in England, was it referred to as a Chelsea, a district in southwest London.
This pattern carries over to multiple categories. It's easily dressed up or down, and in certain parts of the world, it's a preferred style for work boots, given the closed pattern and slip-on practicality.
The Grant Stone Chelsea is a combination of these categories. The goal was to find a balance between the Western and refined look. It will fit the bill as the work-horse boot or the daily commuter. Most importantly, we used strong, proven components to ensure longevity.
The UK last fits half a size large and has a fuller fit throughout, similar to our Leo last.

The UK last runs a half-size large. Our customers typically take our UK-lasted footwear a half-size down from their average shoe. However, if you have low volume feet, you may want to go a full size down.

"Good construction and appearance, I like the super dark brown color and low-profile heel. The smooth leather liner makes the boot slip on nicely, but it makes the fit critical to avoid heel slip especially with the chelsea. I'm a 9-9. 5EE in sneakers (10. 4 inch foot), a size 8. 5E in their Leo last on the diesel boot, and apparently a size 8E E in this chelsea UK last."

"Great boots - zero break-in. I am a 10. 5E in the leo last and I ended up with a 10EE in these. I normally wear midweight socks and they fit great. I have a 10. 5d in some loafers and in the dirty buck, and those can be a touch tight when I am not wearing dress socks or no socks so take with that what you will. Great boots and the waxed commander is showing wear nicely."

- Thanks for reaching out Jose! The Chelsea Boot collection is made on our UK last. This last follows the majority of our lother lasts which fall on the larger more voluminous side of the spectrum. - Is this boot waterproof and/ or suitable for winter?
- This leather is not waterproof but handles wet weather very well given its oily/waxy properties. Letting the leather dry naturally when they are very wet is best.
- How do you care for the way commander leather?
- Using a brush that has firm bristles will help keep dust particles off and even out scuffs. Since the leather surface has a matte finish, it holds this look even after a lot of heavy wear. Scuffs and dings tend to look more natural. If it begins to look dry over time, the tannery recommends applying a WP beeswax/dubbin to restore. From our own experience, we’ve used Venetian and have seen good results. We've used other products too, just use a little amount to start and go from there.
