Free Exchange on Domestic Orders

The Ottawa boot—combining Goodyear-welt construction with time-proven leather uppers, lining, and insoles—is based on our classic Diesel boot. However, the hand-sewn split-toe moc breaks up the vamp nicely, creating a versatile business casual boot. The end result makes the otherwise broader shape of the Leo last look more aggressive and sleek.

  • Goodyear-welt construction
  • Leo last
  • Chromexcel by Horween
  • Handsewn moc-toe stitching
  • Full-grain kip leather lining
  • 360º split-reverse welt
  • Antique brass eyelets and speed hooks
  • Vegetable-tanned leather insole, welt, and midsole
  • Cork filler with steel shank
  • Full-grain leather heel counters
  • Micro stud rubber outsole

Every pair crafted in our factory on Xiamen Island, China

The Leo last runs a half-size large. Customers typically order a half-size down from their average shoe size.

Ottawa Boot Crimson Chromexcel

$435.00

Made with

Goodyear-welt Construction

Renowned for its durability and ability to be resoled repeatedly, Goodyear-welt construction involves stitching a welt—a strip of leather—around the shoe's perimeter, creating a cavity. After filling the cavity with the shank and cork, the sole is attached, providing strength and water resistance. This construction method results in shoes that are not only long-lasting but also easily repairable, making them a timeless investment in quality craftsmanship.

Our Leo Last

Derived from our experience fitting and developing various orthopedic-shaped lasts designed for specific foot shapes, the Leo features a moderate arch, heel control, medial support, and forefront freedom. It embodies a traditional welted shoe shape while prioritizing all-day support and comfort.

Our mission

Providing Excellent Service

Our priority has been putting customers in shoes that properly fit them and standing by our amazing products. Many customers have found they have been wearing an incorrect size for years. This has been lost in the market today. We offer the majority of our footwear in D, E, and EEE widths to provide well-fitting footwear.

We encourage customers to ask our team for assistance to ensure the best fit.

Overall rating: 4.891089 / 5 from 101 reviews.

Perspective from a Heritage Boot Newcomer With Extra-Wide (EEE) Feet

"Overall, I think these are great boots. Since most people reading reviews want to know the downsides first, I’ll start there — with the caveat that for me, these are all minor issues. First, they’re fairly heavy and not especially comfortable right out of the box. That’s to be expected with a substantial leather boot, and I anticipate both the weight and stiffness will fade into the background as they break in. Second, even though they’re partially gusseted, the tongues were bending inward on both boots. I had a local cobbler stitch each tongue to the lining on one side (so not visible from the outside) of each boot for $20, which completely solved the issue while still allowing the boots to be easy to pull on and off. I’m new to heritage boots, but I’ve noticed the Chromexcel is creasing more on one boot than the other. That may just reflect my gait. It doesn’t bother me much, though in a perfect world both boots would break in more symmetrically — whether that means pronounced creases or almost none at all. Finally, the uppers close almost completely at the top, as if my ankles and shins are a bit too slim for the last. That’s likely the tradeoff for needing an EEE width to accommodate my forefoot — I assume the whole boot scales up accordingly. It’s worth noting that off-the-shelf EEE heritage, service style boots in this price range are pretty limited. The Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill (when on sale) is probably the closest mainstream comparison that I’m aware of. For that reason alone, I appreciate Grant Stone offering a well-built, readily available, extra wide option. Overall, I’m very happy with them and expect they’ll only get better with wear."

Mark Y. (5/5)

Q&A

Do you ever make the Ottawa in color #8?
No, we have not made a Color #8 CXL Ottawa boot. While the Ottawa boot might not come in Color #8, we will be using the leather for another one of our more popular models this Spring!
What is the length and width of a size 6?
The bottom of the 6D last measures 262mm while the circumference of the width measures 224mm. This can be misleading though, we suggest sending an email to info@grantstoneboot.com listing some brands and the sizes you like to wear in those brands. We can help you select a size.
I wear size 11 sneakers and 10 dress shoes. Never own a boot before. What size do you recommend?
I would suggest the 10D or 10.5D to start, depending on what kind of socks you wear and if you like your footwear snug or not. I personally wear 11 in sneakers and a 10D or even 9.5E in our Grant Stone collection. Feel free to list a few brands/sizes you like to wear, this would help me hone in a little better on your best size. Our Leo last is pretty spacious.
